Some of the glowing comments received after the concert:
“That was the best yet” “The standard of performance from everybody was incredible”
“I really was very much impressed by the choirs under your leadership”
“Many congratulations once again for a tremendous evening of Christmas music”
An outstanding evening of Christmas music, undeterred by the disruption to local roads and rail services caused by Storm Darragh. Attendees praised the incredible standard of performance, the warm and friendly atmosphere in the hall, and the light-hearted, entertaining repertoire. The early start was appreciated by both performers and the audience, contributing to a well-received programme that combined familiar seasonal pieces, newer arrangements such as Dan Forrest's In the Bleak Midwinter, and a rousing rendition of Handel’s Hallelujah Chorus, evoking the festive spirit.
Some special moments included …………….
The nation’s favourite carol, O Holy Night, featuring delightful singing by soloist Alex Stait
The wonderful playing by Helen Edgar on cello, featured in our lamp carols, Advent Alleluia and O Come O Come Emmanuel
RGS Dodderhill Chamber Choir’s acapella rendition of the Bulgarian folk song Kaval Sviri
The finale, featuring Gordon Langford’s arrangement of A Christmas Fantasy which rounded off the programme and reached a dramatic conclusion with the firing of red and green confetti cannons.
Supporting Birmingham Hospice
A member of their fundraising team spoke to the audience about the services that Birmingham Hospice provides in supporting people with life-limiting illness at different stages in their journey, and their families, free of charge.
Members of the audience gave generously at the end of the concert, donating over £1600 on the night, and a further £1400 has been donated via a JustGiving page and Gift Aid, totalling over £3000!
